This week marks the start of our tenth year since the full-time launch of KDD Philanthropy. While this is indeed a milestone, it’s equally incredible what I’ve learned from clients like you during that time.

My heart is full as I write this. I’m working in my hotel room, across the street from one of the many, many beautiful campuses I have the good fortune to work with (great view of the basketball arena and several education buildings). When I arrived last night, the campus was brimming with pride and comraderies, as the football game had just kicked off. The quad was full of campus colors (both teams), the hotel front desk was decorated, and the staff had so much energy. Bucket filling!

Now, I’ve just finished a presentation for a healthcare client. I will spend this week with four different clients in three different states, plus a virtual workshop from the Dallas airport in between flights.

If this sounds exhausting, sometimes it is. But more often than not, it’s exhilarating.

My energy comes from you: Philanthropy professionals who do the world-changing work of inspiring generosity each and every day.

Yes, fundraising has real challenges. We all know there are fewer donors and ever-increasing needs and expectations. But day after day, I work with clients who build a better world through the power of generosity. Who do this work skillfully and passionately and are making a real difference. Incredible individuals who champion wonderful and important causes.

I am beyond grateful to have the trust of my clients. It fuels me on the long days, and the days when I see that everyone is so tired. I see the passion at on-site trainings, I feel it on Zoom coaching calls and I hear it across the phone lines. Yes, my role is to bring advice, strategies, practicality and accountability. But what drives me is my hope to bring a piece of the joy to clients too – the same joy that I receive from so many every day! Thank you for being a part of our journey, and for the impact you have on me and so many others.
